I purchased a boat from Hughes Marine and it has been a terrible experience. When I bought the boat I did negotiate the price on the boat and asked Jacob to guarantee the boat was in good condition and ready to go to the water. I live almost 4 hours away. Jacob said the boat was 100% ready to go. So we made the deal and I told him I would come pick it up. I took the boat home and first trip to the river and the power trim wouldn’t work. I took it home and repaired the trim. I then went back to the river and the boat would run but about 100 yards and shut down into limp mode. I had to be pulled back to the boat launch. I called Jacob and he said to bring it and he would fix it. I did pull it back to him from 4 hrs away and he kept the boat a week. I picked it up and he said to take it to a local boat launch and run the boat and if it didn’t run he would come there and make repairs. After finding the boat ramp I put the boat in the water and it ran about 100 yards and quit again. I called Jacob and told him I was broke in the river, and when could he be there. He said he couldn’t come, that he had something to do... while leaving me sitting in the river and again having to try and make it back to the launch. I dropped the boat off again this being the third time. He kept the boat another week and when I picked it up this time I brought it 4 hours back home. When I put it in the water it ran about 100 yards and quit again. At this point I’m getting upset. I very nicely told him I would like to get my money back and when he is able to make the repairs he can sell it to someone else. He then tells me there is no way he is refunding me and to bring it back to him for the fourth time. At this point I had decided he isn’t capable of fixing the boat! This has been going on for a month!!! I took it to a local shop where I know the Mercury mechanic. After he looked at the boat it was obvious Jacob hadn’t replaced the parts Jacob said he had and that he didn’t know how to fix the engine. I asked him how he would like to handle the bill where I had it repaired and he said it was my problem and he wasn’t paying anything. So I wouldn’t recommend this shop to anyone they don’t know how to make repairs and don’t do what they say. Don’t be fooled by a big nice shop sign like I was…….

Did an amazing job on my sons T Top. Kept him updated the entire time. Got him his boat back in a timely manner. And was the only shop around the entire Baton Rouge/Livingston Parish area that was even willing to install an aftermarket T Top. Fair price as well. Overall great experience.

Called Hughes Marine on a Friday about bringing my boat in for service. He was very polite and said I could bring it in on Monday. My boat was completed and ready for pick up that Thursday morning. Jacob was great at communicating with me, work was done quickly and efficiently. One of the employees even helped me hook my boat up when I was leaving. Great service all around. 10/10 would recommend to others.

My boat sat at this shop for 7 months with absolutely zero updates. He would not answer the phone and would lie about the status the boat when returning my calls. I had to drive out to the shop twice to determine the ACTUAL status of my boat. I was told he did not have time to investigate the issue and would replace the VOLVO PENTA motor completely. This is what I paid for and what I received WAS NOT a new Volvo Penta motor. 9 months later and the boat STILL doesn’t run properly. Contacted him several times and said he would drive here to look at the boat and NEVER CAME. To add to the lies — he IS NOT a Certified Volvo Penta technician. He IS ALSO NOT a Certified Mercury technician. Sell your boat before bringing it here for any type of maintenance, repairs, or installation.

Terrible customer service, terrible mechanic work. Boat was in his shop for no less than 4 months and had to be put in another shop after the work was “completed” so that repairs could be finished. Save yourself a headache and take your business elsewhere. So much for trying to support local businesses.
