Blackwater NWR Soft Launch

It's very relaxing. Once you get past the small pensula of trees and can no longer see the bridge, it's very quiet. You can hear the wind and the birds singing. Very peaceful. The boat ramp is steep and you can not back a trailer into the water. There are only 2 parking sports for vehicles with boat trailers. We had to use it because of our large fishing kayaks, but if you have an inflatable or a kayak that you can transport on the roof of your car, you'll be fine with the parking. Come early though because it does fill up. The water is a maximum of 4 feet deep and it a little cool. At the boat ramp it did smell a little but you are near the marsh so that is to be expected. I did get stuck in 6 inches but was able to scoot my kayak out. There is an abundance of wildlife to view. Bring bug spray. The Flys will bite you.

Flooded with cat fish and carp if you interested with these two species. Caught 87 cat fish in 2 hours, did catch and release only.

Beautiful spot for kayaking!

Great place for a paddle by kayak. Easy launch spot right next to parking. Go up river or under the bridge and explore the open bay like water. Bald eagles everywhere!

A good launch point for canoes, kayaks and SUPs, with access to Blackwater River. Plenty of parking available. No charge. You'll need to paddle across a large, windy bay before entering the river.
